Food Truck Rodeo

In October, Kevin and I spent a Sunday afternoon at the Food Truck Rodeo on Fayetteville Street.  I had never been to a rodeo before.  I think I was a little nervous about the crowds I had heard about and I didn't want to fight to eat.  Kevin was also traveling so often that on weekends of rodeos, he was gone.  It was the perfect day, sunny and clear with a little breeze.

Our first stop was Bo's Kitchen: Korean Street Food
We went with the Mandu (beef) and rice.  I can't even explain to you how delicious it was.  I have never had such a delicious dumpling and was pleased with the serving size for the price.  $10 for the 4 dumplings, rice and a bed of lettuce.  Win!

Second stop- Sarge's Chef on Wheels: Asian/Caribbean Flair
Again, a VERY generous serving size for $11.  The creamy grits were topped with bacon, shrimp, garlic, scallions, red and green bell peppers and spicy gravy.  I don't do well with spicy, but this was so delicious, I licked the bowl clean.  Kevin and I both enjoyed this one a lot!

3rd stop, American Meltdown: Fancy Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
We opted for the Pigs 'n' Figs and were very pleased!  The goat cheese, figs and speck really made a statement on the sourdough bread.  $7 was a little steep for the serving size, but we weren't too bothered by it.

Our fourth stop was Stuft: Gourmet Baked Potatoes
I really wanted this featured dish of bacon maple cheddar bombs, but they were all sold out.  So, we went for the Bacon Cheddar Ranch- A potato topped with crispy bacon, melted cheddar and ranch dressing.  It was good. $8

Our 5th and final stop was Lumpy's Ice Cream
Flavor of the season was Peter Peter's Pumpkin Pie.  I'm not a huge fan of ice cream, but I sure do love anything pumpkin, so I was in.  A double scoop for $7, Ok!

For our first rodeo, I think we did pretty well.  My top was a toss up between Bo's dumplings and Sarge's shrimp and grits.  I could have done without our potato from Stuft...it was just okay.  I'm pleased we didn't wait long in any lines.  The line for Pho Nomenal Dumplings and Cousins Maine Lobster were out of control and I've heard the food's not that great for the price, so I'm glad we didn't get suckered in.

If anyone wants to ever hit up a food truck rodeo with me, let me know!  Ya'll know I love to eat and the rodeo allows you to try many different things out of your comfort zone without breaking the bank.

2016!!

Happy 2016!  How in the world did November and December fly by so fast and how is it already January moving into February?  We don't have kids and time seems to fly these days regardless!

We didn't send out Christmas cards this year.  It seemed too tricky with our trip to Europe, so I posted it on facebook.  If you didn't see it:

"The greatest gift of all is the gift of our Savior! Merry Christmas! We hope you've had a wonderful 2015 and we're sending you warm wishes as 2016 approaches. Love, Kevin and Victoria"

There are still a few posts I wanted to get out there before I post about our trip to Amsterdam, Bruges, Paris and South Africa.  So, hang tight while I muddle through the end of last year.
