I was born and raised in the Raleigh, North Carolina area...really Clayton, NC for most of my school years. I graduated in 2005 from East Carolina University where I obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance Education. I worked at the NC Department of Public Instruction as a Program Assistant for 5 years before obtaining a job at Saint Mary's School, a private boarding school for 9-12th grade girls in downtown Raleigh, this past July.
Kevin was born and raised in the state of Vermont. He grew up playing baseball, basketball and soccer. A baseball scholarship brought him to Barton College in Wilson, NC. I think simply because it offered the most scholarship money. Kevin earned degrees in Business Administration and Sports Management before landing a job with the Carolina RailHawks, a professional soccer team in Cary, NC. Currently, Kevin works for Etix, a ticketing software company in Morrisville, NC.
At the beginning of 2009, I was finally in a good place in my life! I had gotten out of another relationship that went south a little over a year earlier and was finally to the point where I was enjoying being by myself. I had come to peace with the fact that I might never fall in love and be married and I was content to be an old cat lady, minus the cats! I was enjoying going to restaurants alone and to the movies...it was kinda fun being bold and by myself out in the world and was nice, for a change, to only have to worry about myself! I was working at the Dept. of Public Instruction and had found a group of friends from church that I was hanging out with on the weekends and at Bible Study.
In March of 2009, I was approached by the First Impression leaders at Hope Community Church, where I had attended church for a few years, about an opportunity to park cars for the Carolina RailHawks (professional soccer team in Cary, NC) and in turn, the RailHawks would give Hope enough money to drill a fresh water well in the Central African Republic, something our church was just starting up and I wanted to do everything I could to get fresh drinking water to a part of Africa...even if I had to do it alone! I was already a Roadie at Hope (volunteer that parks cars for the services on the weekends). Not only did I volunteer, but I was appointed team lead...WHAT? I would later refer to this experience as being Volun-told because it was difficult each week to gather the necessary amount of people to run the lot!
At the same time Kevin was working for the Carolina RailHawks as Ticket Manager. I met with a team of people at the RailHawks (none of them Kevin) to set-up my roles for this volunteer opportunity. Somehow in a matter of weeks, things with the RailHawks changed and parking was put under Kevin's responsibilities. As luck, or fate, would have it, Kevin became my contact at the soccer park and later my "boss". Kevin didn't exactly drop everything he was doing to answer my e-mails, since I had just been passed off on him as a new responsibility. I took the matter into my own hands and contacted Martin, the team coach (who also attended Hope Community Church), in hopes of getting a response from Kevin. Immediately after contacting Martin, I received a call from Kevin. I said, "oh, that was fast! Sorry if I got you in trouble." Kevin's gruff reply was, "yes you did!". At the time, Kevin thought I was annoying. He pictured me as a 40-something busy-body that was going to make his life miserable....little did he know! ;)
The first game came at the beginning of April, 2009 and when Kevin first saw me, he couldn't believe it. I was not 40 years old and he thought I was kinda cute! (I didn't know this until later) I was immediately attracted as well. I thought Kevin was handsome and pegged him for being a few years older than me. (which I later found out, was not true.)
A few games went by and April turned into May. Kevin and I were e-mailing often about the games and starting to add personal touches to those e-mails. They were definitely on the flirty side and Kevin used words like "sunshine", "tiger", and "dear" to address me in e-mails. Putting on the moves!
On May 13, 2009 Kevin and I went on our first date to Bonefish Grill in Cary, NC. Kevin came to pick me up at my place and then set off for the restaurant in the wrong direction. After joking that he was trying to kidnap me, I got us on the right track. We had a wonderful dinner and Kevin took me home and walked me upstairs where we shared our first hug. **yay**
Kevin and I went to see "Angels and Demons" the week after our first date and then I flew to Chicago that weekend to hang out with Ashley. I couldn't stop talking about Kevin the whole time I was in Chicago and called him on my way home to see if he would pick me up from the airport. His mom was in town from Vermont visiting, but he left her to pick me up and take me home. Oh sookie, sookie now! The next weekend I met Kevin in Moore's Square for Downtown Live. And we saw each other pretty constantly after that! The rest is history!
Our story is pretty amazing! It took quite a bit to make it happen and our whole lives brought us together! Kevin's decision to leave Vermont and come to NC for college, Victoria being from this area and seeking a new church after college, Kevin getting a job with the Carolina RailHawks, Victoria being obedient to God in answering the call to volunteer at the soccer park, both of us being in a place where we were open and ready for a new relationship/adventure. Our meeting truly was God's divine plan and His faithfulness is evident in every aspect of our relationship!
I'm also very thankful that I don't have to be an old cat lady (minus the cats)! :)
OMG Love this!
